Do you like a Soft coated wheaten terrier or a Golden-doodle better?

I am thinking of getting another dog. Probably from the pound. It has to be hypoallergenic and so it came down to one of these two dogs. The only reason why I want a mixed breed is b/c I want a golden retriever and it is not hypo-allergenic so I would have to mix it with a poodle.

Which dog would you prefer, a Soft coated wheaten terrier or a Golden-doodle.

Soft wheaten. You should know that the majority of the poodle mixes in the shelters are there because they got the coat type of the other parents and SHED.

Before you get either though you need to have whomever is allergic to dogs in your house around each of these animals to see if they will actually have a reaction or not. Not every breed is a perfect fit for every person with allergies.

Soft coated wheaten terrier. But dogs are not 100% hypo allergenic.

Since you mentioned you would be supporting a shelter dog should you get a mix or not, either one. Although I would prefer the wheaten terrier over the golden/poodle mix.

All shelter dogs need homes many are mixed look into it and good luck. Realize no dog is 100% hypo allergenic..they have hair, dander..look for a mix of certain kinds and good luck to u.

I like the soft coated wheaten terrier, not because its a purebred dog compared to the goldendoodle, but because I'm not a fan of poodle mixes.... i think they arent cute... the soft coated wheateb terrier is a handsome looking dog!

A golden retriever and a doodle are two very different dogs physically and mentally. Not to say either is bad, but a golden is a golden and a doodle is a doodle.
Be aware that the chances of finding a purebred dog at a shelter isn't too high. If hypoallergenic is key, be sure, before you adopt the dog, that it doesn't trigger the allergies.
Wheatens can be quite the barkers, but are good family dogs in general, and good with children. Doodles are larger, of course, and considerably more active and high-energy.

If you're looking to adopt, get on petfinder.com and see if you can find a dog you like that fits that criteria. There may be a mix there that you never considered...but find to be just perfect.

I have always loved Wheatens, but I would be quite surprised if you were to find a purebred one at a shelter. You're more likely to find a good, unidentified mix.

These dogs have very different temperments, trainability and activity levels. You should take that into consideration more than anything else. Check the links below for some assistance in finding the best breed for your lifestyle. It is also unlikely that you will find a Wheaten in a shelter, though there are some rescues in the US. Golden-doodles have appearances similar to many other mixed breeds, so it's tough to be sure the dog at the pound is actually a golden-doodle unless you go through a rescue. Good luck.

Neither! A lot of Wheatens are nutbars... one of my friends is a Wheaten breeder, and even SHE says they are nutbars! A lot of "Doodles" are over-the-top energy wise, bizarre very high maintanance coats, and not hypoallergenic at all.

If allergies are an issue and you like larger athletic dogs, have you considered a Standard Poodle or a Portugese Water Dog?

I would suggest a breed-specific rescue, when you decide what you want. Whoever the allergic individual is should go to meet the dog, pet and play with it and then rub their hands all over their own face... wait enough time that there will be a reaction if it is going to happen before you decide.

There is no guarantee at all that a Golden X Poodle will be a lower shedding, lower dander level dog. No breed is 'hypo-allergenic', and since a Golden is a shedder then by mixing it with a Poodle you are not guaranteed a thing.
If you want low shedding then go with the Soft Coated Wheaten Terrier.
